Two questions.

Pick as many as apply. You can change your answers and rebuild the list any time.

1 Which states have you lived, worked or banked in?

Add every one, not only where you live now. Washington, DC counts.

2 Has any of this happened to you?

Optional, but it adds the federal searches that fit you.

    Fair questions.

    Is this really free?

Yes. Searching and claiming through state unclaimed property offices and the federal agencies listed here costs nothing. This page is free too. We don't sell your answers and don't see them.

Why do some companies charge to find unclaimed money?

"Finder" firms run the same public searches you can run here, then take a cut of whatever they recover. You can skip them: search the official sites yourself and file the claim directly.

    Will I definitely find money?

No. Many people find nothing, and nobody can promise an amount. The point of the list is that you check every official place that fits your history, so nothing is missed.

Where do these links come from?

State links come from the official state directory on MissingMoney.com, which is run by the National Association of State Treasurers. Federal links go straight to the agency. We checked every link on the date shown under your checklist. If one has moved, search for "[state] unclaimed property" and use the result ending in .gov.

    What happens to my answers?

Nothing leaves your browser unless you choose to email yourself the list. Your selections are kept only in the page address, so you can bookmark or share the list.
